Up to what # of weeks gestation do they offer abortion? 14 weeks
Is there a state-mandated a waiting period? If yes, how does this impact the abortion care clients receive in that state? Yes. Tennessee has a 48-hour waiting period that begins after a patient has an in-person visit with a medical doctor. This cannot be fulfilled by any other type of medical professional and it must occur on-site (not via telehealth or over the phone). This creates a significant barrier because only medical doctors working in Tennessee abortion clinics can start this process (patients can’t do this with a PCP or an OBGYN).
Other costs to client associated with abortion? (i.e. waiting period, mandatory ultrasounds, cost of prescription, follow up visits, etc.) -Traveling to the clinic for a minimum of two visits and associated costs with these visits: time off work (that is oftentimes unpaid), child care (most clinics do not allow children to be present and do not offer child care), gas
-Depending on certain variables, patients might require a third clinic visit for follow up (or more) and/or surgery if they have complications.
-Prescription costs: can be more and harder to access if patients have a surgical procedure and require narcotic pain medication.
-Rh typing: They charge more for patients who have a Rh negative blood type (which requires an injection). If you don’t know your blood type, you can spend $30 for blood typing. You can also opt to just have the injection without typing. Injections cost $50 for pregnancies </=12 weeks and $100 for pregnancies >12 weeks.
-Ultrasounds/pregnancy tests: If patients present too early to care and nothing is seen on ultrasound, they are sometimes charged an additional $150 for additional ultrasounds. If patients want a urine pregnancy test, they charge $25 for each test.

****Memphis, TN****

Clinic Name: CHOICES Memphis Center for Reproductive Health
Clinic Address: 1726 Poplar Ave, Memphis TN 38104
Clinic Contact: Sarah Johnston-Barnett, sjohnston@memphischoices.org, cell: 205-292-1313, office: 901-274-3689
Up to what # of weeks gestation do they offer abortion? 15
Is there a state-mandated a waiting period? If yes, how does this impact the abortion care clients receive in that state? Yes, mandatory 48 hour waiting period. This generally looks like patients getting their day 2 appointment at the earliest three days after their pre-op appointment for surgical abortions, sometimes two days for medication (due to appointment times for SABs and MABs)
Other costs to client associated with abortion? (i.e. waiting period, mandatory ultrasounds, cost of prescription, follow up visits, etc.) -Sedation: +$300 (mandatory for minors getting SABs)-Rhogam: +$80-Mandatory ultrasound, MD counseling, etc (pre-op, all patients): $200-Travel, lodging, childcare (travel is a big burden for many coming from out of state and across the state, and specifically for those being sedated, as having a driver is mandatory)-Blood pregnancy test: +$20 (for patients whose pregnancies are too early to read on ultrasound, have to get 2 blood pregnancy tests to watch hCG levels)-Follow up and antibiotics are free
Cost of a medication abortion $700 to $780 (+$80 for patients that are Rh negative for Rhogam injection); $200 pre-op, $500-$580 MAB
Do they offer surgical abortion? Yes
Costs to client associated with a surgical abortion? (i.e. gestational age, cost of anesthesia, etc.) -$700-$780 for SAB up to 11.6 (+$80 would be for Rhogam if needed)-$800-$880 for ADV SAB 12.0-15.0-$1000-$1080 for SAB with sedation (IV sedation, completely asleep)-$1100-$1180 for ADV with sedation
Does the clinic currently offer financial assistance to their clients? If yes, please describe. Yes, but not for pre-opAll patients have the opportunity to get NAF assistance during their pre-op appointment, generally covers 25-30% of cost Those that need additional financial assistance are instructed to call ARC-Southeast, then call Sarah J-B. Sarah then works with WRRAP and NAF to bring down cost to amount that patient can afford. Works with AASN when they have funds available for Arkansas patients. This somewhat frequently looks like earlier EGA patients having to move their appointments back because WRRAP funds only one patient per day, and NAF encourages patients to move their apts back if they’re very early because they supposedly will have more time to come up with the money that way. Sarah can also use money from CHOICES Patient Assistance Fund, but generally tries to reserve that for extreme cases, as that is the only funding available for non-AB patients (i.e. HRT, testing, etc)
Are abortion doulas available?  Yes, every patient has an abortion doula
Does the clinic have an active volunteer program that provides clinic escorts? No, but there are very rarely protesters at CHOICES
