Alternative Lodging

Another affordable option also nearby (3 miles) is Scarritt Bennett, a former college that is now an educational center and conference and special events venue with a rich history. They offer dorm rooms. To reserve, call Guest Services at 615-340-7500 and select #2 for Overnight Lodging. You must have a major credit card to reserve. Their cancellation policy is 48 hours for full refund. Each dorm room has a single twin bed with sheets and towels provided, but no toiletries or sundries. There are no TVs or phones in the room, but they do offer free wifi. Each dorm room is completely private with locked doors, but shares a bathroom with one other adjoining room. Check in any time after 3pm, check out is by 10:30am. Scarritt Bennett is an alcohol- and smoke-free campus, but there are designated smoking areas. There is no elevator to upper floors, so if you require a first-floor room you will need to request it with your reservation. Much of the building is old and not ADA compliant, but they do have rooms that can accommodate wheelchairs upon request.

Airbnb.com is another cheaper alternative to hotels. For those who have not used Airbnb before, a common misperception is that you must share the space with the hosts. Actually, there are three types of rooms you can reserve. First, an entire private apartment or home to yourself. Second, you have your own private room but share common space with the hosts. Third, you can reserve a shared space, like a futon or sofa in a common room. From our experience, entire homes are often cheaper and sometimes even nicer than a hotel. Entire homes range from $70-130 per night for 1-3 people.
