As part of the inaugural Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17) in partnership with the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Healthy and Free Tennessee is hosting a special, free screening of the documentary film The Naked Truth: Death By Delivery which examines the rising maternal mortality rate in the U.S., particularly the staggering mortality rate of Black mothers. This Fusion special features doctors, midwives, doulas, mothers, and advocates who are working to address the systemic issue. A panel on maternal mortality and what can be done about this epidemic which disproportionately affects black women in Tennessee will follow. The goal of this week is to increase awareness of Black maternal health in Tennessee and the U.S. and the root causes of poor maternal health outcomes, including Black maternal mortality.
